We are living in a day of great turbulence and polarization. Many people are frustrated, or angry or alienated or involved or a hurting in other ways that are bringing pain or aloneness. They need to be loved with the love that only God can provide through the ministry of the Holy Spirit. At the same time, the majority of Christians are avoiding, ignoring or confronting the people who need their love. Therefore, Christians in our culture are seen by some 80% of Americans as judgmental, critical, aloof and/or hypocritical. LOVE 2020 is desperately needed. It brings together the people who are greatly in need of being loved with the people who God has given the ability to love others with the authentic love only He can provide. Every follower of Jesus Christ has been supernaturally gifted with the ability to share His conditional love with others. That is what LOVE2020 is all about!
Is LOVE2020 a challenge, a resource-center, a movement, or . . . ?
LOVE2020 began as an initiative but has grown to become a growing movement of the Holy Spirit in the United States and beyond. It is a small creek that we pray will expand to become a mighty river of love that will affect marriages, families, neighborhoods, communities, cities, schools, work places, governments — the entire nation. We pray that by year-end 2020 every person in this nation will be authentically loved by at least one follower of Jesus Christ!
How would you coach a leader (congregation, small group, ministry team) to take ownership of LOVE2020 in their context?
We need to begin with ourselves. We need to love God with all of our hearts and then begin to share His love those around us by praying for them, by caring for them by loving them in appropriate ways for where they are and where they are hurting or experiencing needs and then by sharing with them the love of God through Jesus Christ.
Then we can invite others to join us by doing the same.
How would you coach that leader to mobilize the persons they serve/disciple into the LOVE2020 movement?
To follow the same steps we have taken
What is your prayer for the person reading this interview right now?
If you are not a follower of Jesus, I would like you to know that God loves you and cares for you more than you can imagine. He has known you and loved you though out all of your life. He loves you so much that He provided His one and only son, Jesus Christ, to provide the way for you to be forgiven for every thing you have ever done that falls short of what He created you to be and to do.
